First of all, where to buy your ballet shoes?

In my opinion, the best place to start is in specialized shops, where you can benefit from professional advice and a wide choice of models, which is very useful when buying your first pair of pointe shoes.
I advise you against multi-sports superstores that are not specialized in the field and do not offer a wide choice of models.
As far as the internet is concerned, my opinion is mitigated for the purchase of a first pair it is largely preferable to try several pairs of tips because it is difficult from a simple description to find the one that will suit you perfectly.

How to choose them?

The size: First of all try your pointe shoes with the accessories you will have when you wear them, i.e. tights and foam or silicone tips.
First try your shoe flat, you must be perfectly maintained when you go up on the toe, this one must be a little relaxed on the heel without slipping off your foot. Regarding the width there are several sizes do not hesitate to ask for advice to the salesmen they are there to accompany you in your purchase.

The sole: Depending on the strength of your kick, the hardness of the sole will depend. If you have a very powerful kick, i.e. muscular and developed, you will have to opt for spikes with hard soles to support the strength of your foot. On the other hand, if you have a foot with little strength it is better to turn with a softer sole that will facilitate the rise on pointe. To check the hardness of the toe, simply climb on it. If you manage to stay stable on the square platform at the end of the toe, it is the right one for you.

Don't forget that finding the right pair of pointe shoes is a very personal moment, you are the only person who knows what you really need, so follow your instinct and I am sure you will find the perfect shoe to start your first pointe class !
